Volunteers in Germany

Every year about 15 people from Africa and Latin-America get the chance through our International Peace Service in Germany to participate in a 13-month voluntary service programme with our partner organisations in Germany.
Since 2015 voluntary service with EIRENE has no longer been a one-way street: We want to give young people from other countries besides Germany the opportunity to broaden their horizons, transcend boundaries, develop new perspectives, and learn new skills; And the host organisations benefit from the involvement of international volunteers. In the course of their voluntary work and during the time which the volunteers spend living in Germany, intercultural relationships develop and intercultural dialogue takes place. This fosters reflection on life in Germany and social action to create a more just and peaceful society.
When the volunteers arrive in April or May an exciting year begins - for the people whom the volunteers work with in their placements and for the families who host them, because the young people come with a wealth of experience. They have already learned a trade and may also have practised it in their home countries. And they have been actively involved in our partner organisations. For the volunteers themselves, the year in Germany is a great opportunity for professional and personal development. The mutual learning experiences are unique and sharpen perceptions of global power structures and relationships.
Volunteers are selected in their home countries.
