A commitment to non-violence constitutes the basis for our actions. We act peacefully and actively promote respect for humand rights and a constructive approach to conflict resolution. We avoid violent conduct. We expose structures and mindsets that legitimise violence.

The global community needs a fair distribution of resources that respects the limits of growth. Therefore, we observe social and ecological criteria in procurement and practise a considerate way of living that is characterised by solidarity. Within the scope of our understanding and capabilities, we avoid procurement behaviour that promotes illegal business and war economies.

We respect the dignity of every individual and treat each other in respect. We do not discriminate against anyone for reasons of sex, colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age or sexual orientation. (Extract from the EU Charter).

  • We use the financial means we have at our disposal (member fees, public and private grants and donations) economically and efficiently in a targeted manner for specific purposes. We avoid potential conflicts between personal interests and the interests of EIRENE or disclose them to the deciding committees.
  • Corruption and embezzlement undermine the rule of law, good governance and social development. We will openly name and identify any such cases. Financial or any other kind of benefits that could compromise our conduct must be neither allowed to third parties nor accepted or requested by us.

Critical analysis and control are important elements in the decision-making processes at EIRENE. Responsibilities for decisions must be exercised in a transparent, constructive and consensus-oriented manner. Affected persons must be promptly informed. An account of the processes and results must be given to the respective supervising committee.

  • We observe the laws of our host countries and their social standards providing they do not contradict human rights. We promote the political, social and societal participation of everyone. We support our partner organisations with embracing their role in the social change of their societies and standing up for human rights, justice and reconciliation.
  • We are reliable and fulfil the commitments we make. EIRENE transparently informs all parties about future plans, strategies and financial framework conditions. In the event of unforeseen situations, we seek close contact with our partner organisations and try to avert negative effects for the local partner and population groups.
  • We are aware that also in our private lives we are seen as representatives of EIRENE and that the credibility of EIRENE is measured against our conduct. For the sake of our own credibility, these guidelines also provide us with orientation for our private lives.

We are a learning organisation. We need critical and loving support. In our daily working processes we provide opportunities for feedback. We respect the integrity of our staff and voluntary co-workers in the association as well as our colleagues in the international office, coordination offices and our partner organsiations. We avoid humiliating conduct wherever possible.
