Nachruf: Traude Rebmann

Traude Rebmann ist am 13. Juli 2026 im Alter von fast 87 Jahren gestorben.
Von 1981 bis 1986 war sie in Neuwied hauptamtlich bei EIRENE tätig und baute zusammen mit Jean-Luc Tissot und Annik Gentner das sogenannte Nordprogramm auf, den Freiwilligendienst für Zivildienstpflichtige und andere, die sich für einen Freiwilligendienst im Ausland interessierten. Sie verließ EIRENE für eine Ausbildung in Mediation in den USA und blieb EIRENE als Trainerin in Seminaren und Workshops zu Gewaltfreier Konfliktbearbeitung verbunden. Mediation und Gewaltfreie Kommunikation waren ihr Herzensthemen. Sie war eine Pionierin der Mediation in Deutschland und gehörte 1992 zu den Gründungsmitgliedern des Bundesverbands Mediation. Sie reiste in zahlreiche Konfliktregionen dieser Welt: nach Südafrika, in die USA, nach Bangladesch, Nordirland und Ex-Jugoslawien, besuchte Friedensgruppen und unterstützte Versöhnungsprozesse.
Traude lebte aus der jesuanischen Gewaltfreiheit heraus und war eine wichtige Botschafterin für religiös inspirierte Friedensarbeit in Südosteuropa. Traude war eine begnadete Netzwerkerin. Sie brachte Menschen und Ideen zusammen, gab Anstöße, inspirierte, öffnete Türen, stellte Kontakte her. Vieles davon lebt weiter in den Initiativen und Organisationen, die sie mitbegründet hat, aber vor allem in den Menschen, die ihr begegnet sind. Es war eine Freude, sie gekannt zu haben.

Obituary: Traude Rebmann
Traude Rebmann passed away on 13 July 2026 at the age of almost 87.
From 1981 to 1986, she worked full-time for EIRENE in Neuwied and, together with Jean-Luc Tissot and Annik Gentner, set up the so-called ‘Nordprogramm’, a voluntary service programme for those liable for civilian service and others interested in volunteering abroad. She left EIRENE to undertake training in mediation in the USA but remained associated with the organisation as a trainer in seminars and workshops on non-violent conflict resolution. Mediation and non-violent communication were causes close to her heart. She was a pioneer of mediation in Germany and was one of the founding members of the Federal Association for Mediation in 1992. She travelled to numerous conflict-affected regions around the world: to South Africa, the USA, Bangladesh, Northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia, visiting peace groups and supporting reconciliation processes.
Traude lived out the principles of Jesus’ non-violence and was an important ambassador for religiously inspired peace work in South-Eastern Europe. Traude was a gifted networker. She brought people and ideas together, provided impetus, inspired others, opened doors and forged connections. Much of this lives on in the initiatives and organisations she co-founded, but above all in the people she met. It was a joy to have known her.
